Ethiopian Electricity Service has launched a very fast electric car charging station service in Addis Ababa. The Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Electricity Service, Engineer Getu Geremu, said that the service is fulfilling its role in the effort to increase the green economy as a country and achieve Digital Ethiopia 2030. Engineer Getu, who stated that the facility is providing uninterrupted power supply to electric charging stations built by various organizations, said that plans are being made to build 32 charging stations in Addis Ababa and 8 in other cities for a total of 40 charging stations. Minister of State for Transport and Logistics Mr. Bero Hasan said that within three to four years, about 140,000 electric vehicles will be put into use on Ethiopian roads. The Minister of State also stated that around 17 institutions have been created to fit vehicles in the country. Bero Hassan said that there is a plan to build 2 thousand 300 fast charging stations. He said that only 1 thousand 176 charging stations are needed in Addis Ababa. Mr. Baro, who stated that electric buses have been made available for public service in nine cities, said that in Addis Ababa alone, together with the government and private partners, more than 100 electric buses have been put into operation. A call has been made for citizens to get out of dependence on oil and start using electric cars.
